¹⁵ Pharaoh’s officials saw her and praised her to Pharaoh; and ^(A)the woman was taken into Pharaoh’s house. ¹⁶ Therefore ^(B)he treated Abram well for her sake; and ^[a](C)he gave him sheep, oxen, male donkeys, male servants and female servants, female donkeys, and camels.

¹⁷ But the Lord ^(D)struck Pharaoh and his house with great plagues because of Sarai, Abram’s wife. ¹⁸ Then Pharaoh called Abram and said, “^(E)What is this that you have done to me? Why did you not tell me that she was your wife? ¹⁹ Why did you say, ‘She is my sister,’ so that I took her for myself as a wife? Now then, ^[b]here is your wife, take her and go!” ²⁰ And Pharaoh commanded his men concerning him; and they ^[c]escorted him away, with his wife and all that belonged to him.

^6 (A)Be strong and courageous, for you shall give this people possession of the land which I swore to their fathers to give them. ⁷ Only be strong and very courageous; ^[a](B)be careful to do according to all the Law which Moses My servant commanded you; do not turn from it to the right or to the left, so that you may ^[b]achieve success wherever you go. ^8 (C)This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may ^[c]be careful to do according to all that is written in it; ^(D)for then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will ^[d]achieve success. ⁹ Have I not commanded you? ^(E)Be strong and courageous! ^(F)Do not be terrified nor dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”

¹⁰ Then he said, “^(A)May you be blessed of the Lord, my daughter. You have shown your last kindness to be better than the first, by not going after young men, whether poor or rich. ¹¹ So now, my daughter, do not fear. I will do for you whatever you say, for all ^[a]my people in the city know that you are ^(B)a woman of excellence.

David’s Command to Solomon

2 As David’s ^[a](A)time to die drew near, he commanded his son Solomon, saying, ² “^(B)I am going the way of all the earth. So ^(C)be strong, and ^[b]prove yourself a man. ³ Do your duty to the Lord your God, to walk in His ways, to ^[c]keep His statutes, His commandments, His ordinances, and His testimonies, ^(D)according to what is written in the Law of Moses, so that ^(E)you may succeed in all that you do and wherever you turn,

^13 (A)Be on the alert, ^(B)stand firm in the faith, ^(C)act like men, ^(D)be strong. ¹⁴ All that you do must be done ^(E)in love.

^3 (A)Your adornment must not be merely the external—braiding the hair, wearing gold jewelry, or putting on apparel; ⁴ but it should be ^(B)the hidden person of the heart, with the imperishable quality of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is precious in the sight of God.
